Hi everyone!  Thank you for an amazing and wonderful Fusion experience!  I hope you all had a fantastic time whether it was performing, dancing, watching the show, or just eating.  I know we had some technical difficulties with Media, but I would like to share with you all, the eleven competing teams introductions videos.  They are all a joy to watch and learn.  Once again, thank you everyone for making Fusion happen!

Dance is more about the choreography, the costumes, the medleys, the teams, the fame, etc. Dance teaches you about some of life’s most important aspects including motivation, determination, passion, never giving up, and the most important thing, family. Without having these traits, dance would simply be… nothing. It starts with your heart and your head. Your heart, for dancing through passion, being inspired, and inspiring others. it’s about loving what you do, and loving who you do it with, your team is your family, and the rest of the dance community are your relatives. it starts with your head, and by head i mean not getting big-headed and cocky, but to stay humble and know in your head that you and your team are doing your best whether or not you’re placing or not. It starts with your heart and your head.

[I don’t know who wrote this or how long ago this was written, but I believe this must be shared because this person felt so much passion for dance.  So, I apologize for not asking permission to share this and I hope that you can understand why I ended up sharing this. =]]

Ohh Fusion.  Normally, I do not blog, but this is a first.  So here is to being brave.

About 13 years of FUSION history reside within me.  I do not even know where to begin to describe or even word what these past few months have been like for me.  Now, there are only less thirteen days until Fusion is here.  I feel ecstatic, nervous, brave, anxious, grateful, scared, and self-assured. Basically, all the feels and emotions are just waiting to burst out there as much I want to maintain control.  

I am proud of my staff of what they have accomplished so far.  And there is so, so, soooo much more work to be done before the 21st.  It has been two years since the last time Fusion was hosted.  Gosh, has it really been two years?  Sometimes, I wonder where all the time has gone. My first time on Fusion staff left such an incredible mark on my life.  I hope this year, my staff will be able to feel that too.  More than half of our staff have never experienced Fusion Staff before and I daresay, one year makes quite the difference.  Even for our audience, a year has been too long and we are working real hard to draw their attention back here to Fusion at UCSD.  It is a struggle, but definitely quite the learning experience.  

I do not know about you, but a  year for me seems to go by like the tick of a clock, especially when I am a part of an student-run organization.  Lately, my mind is always on Fusion.  Putting up a dance production is completely different of how I envisioned it to be and I decidedly chose to go down this route.  I love dance and I love the freedom it gives me whenever I move, but when you have the opportunity to give back and partake in an event that is able to give people that access to showcase to the world what their passion is about, then I believe that is one of the greatest gift Fusion has given me.  

Fusion is so much more than what it is to the public’s eye.  Fusion has grown and it has evolved with the ever changing staff each year.  Two of our main purposes is to make Fusion the best Hip-Hop Dance Show ever and the other is that hospitality is key to making this show successful.   This intent not only goes out to the audience, but in every way possible.  We try our utmost best to reach out to our dancers, to our judges, to our MCS, to our staff, and working with our amazing faculty staff and administrators of UCSD to ensure that we are meeting their needs along with our own needs as well.  Fusion has to also be aware that though it is MASA’s hugest event of they year, that we cannot forget why MASA continues to host Fusion as a show and that all of our events throughout the year matters just as much.

Most of the Asian Student Organizations here on campus have their own cultural show that they produce in order to capture their ethnic history.  However, for MASA, Fusion is our cultural show in its own unique way.  For the past years, we have struggled continuously to find the cultural aspect to Fusion to the point where some have to the conclusion that Fusion is just strictly a Hip-Hop Dance Competition.  But I am beginning to realize and understand that though MASA is not the face of Fusion’s show to a lot of people when it comes to the stage, it does not mean that we are not capturing that history and cultural aspect of MASA.  The show, itself, already does an amazing job of representing MASA’s history through our staff and the work that is produced.  To this day, that history lives within us, the staff, and our dance teams that are able to grace the stage.  

It all began with this passion of dance and wanting to bridge that love among our friends within MASA and 220.  Today we are continuing that and learning how to find this passion that fused MASA and 220 together once again and how to move forward this year.  

I know many people may not understand what I am trying to say and I do not expect them, too.  Heck, sometimes even I do not understand what I am trying to say about Fusion and what I tell myself.  I just know that I am extremely affectionate of Fusion.  For now this is just barely touching the surfaces of what I think about Fusion in general.  Fusion, you’re complicated, but you bring out so much of the best from people.

The countdown has started. Less than 13 days.  Two more staff meetings.  Countless hours spent on making this show the greatest experience for everyone.  Here goes for the final push and the many memories to come.  Good luck everyone!  April 21st is going to be an unbelievably incredible day.
